Leti Lagarda

Originally from Galicia (Spain) Leti is always somewhere between the Middle East and South America, although she has recently begun exploring Africa with the same curiosity that has shaped her travels for years. Passionate about vast deserts and the Atlantic Ocean she grew up by, she is constantly seeking out new cultures and perspectives. Currently studying Anthropology while on the road, Leti has a deep fascination with people and the countless ways in which communities shape their identities and traditions.

One of the things she enjoys most about traveling is observing everyday life and learning from different ethnic groups around the world. Among the places that have left the deepest impression on her are the indigenous communities of Colombia’s Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta. Over the years, she has spent long periods living in places such as Tunisia, Istanbul, Lebanon, and Colombia, all of which she considers among the best places to call home.

Rather than chasing new destinations, Leti often prefers returning to the places and people she loves most. China, Turkey, Tajikistan, Colombia, Oman, and Iran remain among her favorite countries, and she believes that genuine connections are worth far more than simply adding another pin to the map. A solo traveler at heart, she embraces spontaneity and enjoys not knowing how her day will end, allowing each journey to unfold naturally.

Through years of traveling, Leti feels she has become a blend of all the cultures she has encountered and embraced. She misses Galician octopus as much as she misses sunsets in Beirut or sharing a shisha in Baghdad. Equally happy surrounded by friends or spending weeks alone in the mountains, she loves reading, dancing, aerial yoga, and hiking.

A proud member of the Against the Compass team, Leti strongly identifies with the values of the ATC community and is especially fond of Mauritania and Syria, two of her favorite tours. Above all, she believes that a good conversation is worth more than a thousand miles spent discovering new places.
